The ultimate goal here is to get a working, functional MySQL database at minimal cost. Since most Linux distributions are free, I decided that would be a great place to start. The next step is choosing a distribution. There are literally thousands to choose from, but since my time is valuable, and the process is dead simple, I chose Ubuntu Server. I’m going to use VirtualBox to install the new server virtually on my Windows 7 laptop.
